I have had a weight problem my entire life.  I was even a fat baby!  I will never forget the moment in 4th grade when we had to step on a scale in front of our classmates for the annual “weigh in”.  I was appalled to see that my weight had skyrocketed to over 100 pounds!  More embarrassing even was the fact that my classmates had a look of horror on their faces that soon turned into fits of laughter and whispering.  I was only 9 years old! So began my battle with the scale and all of the horrible things that it represents.  I went on my first “diet” and did lose some weight but also developed an eating disorder due to my obsession with that number on the scale.  Even as a young adolescent, I knew that something was wrong with me, that I was not “normal”.  I felt out of balance, and as I got older, the weight was harder and harder to take off.  I was nauseous and exhausted from riding on the yo-yo!

After years of enduring strange symptoms such as weight gain, acne, strange hairs sprouting out of strange places, and depression that ranged from mild to very severe, I did some research on my own and found that there was something called PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome that explained all of my symptoms.  I made an appointment with my doctor, explained my symptoms, told her about my research and she agreed that she thought I had PCOS and sent me for more tests.  They confirmed that I was correct, and at the age of 27 I finally had an answer as to why I was the way I was.  But figuring out what to do about it has been much more difficult, due to the fact that it’s a syndrome that is misunderstood even in the medical community.

PCOS has had a major impact on my life.  Not only have I struggled with my weight and some of the unpleasant side effects that come with it, but it is also the reason that I have been unable to get pregnant, even with the help of fertility treatment.  Depression had clouded my mind and at one point I seemed to have “accepted” the way I was.  After working with a life coach, I realized that I had way more power than I thought I did, and that I could take control of my thoughts and my life.  I realized that I needed to GET SERIOUS and perhaps even do things that others considered drastic in order to improve my health, emotional state, and appearance.  I stopped using PCOS as an excuse for being overweight and unhappy.  I adopted a baby in order to make my dreams of being a mother come true.  I have changed the way that I think about food and mostly about myself.  I realized it is my life’s calling to help others in similar situations take charge of their health by changing the way that they think.

I understand what it is like to stick to a diet 100% and get no results.  I understand what it is like to push yourself physically and barely be able to walk the next day and have the number on the scale change only slightly.  I understand the ritual of chin hair tweezing :)  I know what it’s like to not be able to shop at normal stores and to almost be able to parachute off a rooftop with your bra.  I have been on every “diet” imaginable – some worked, some didn’t – but had the most success when I developed the mindset that I was going to get healthy and improve my symptoms, no matter what I needed to do.  I would not have been able to do this on my own!

I am dedicated to helping other women with PCOS and serious weight problems to change they way they think in order to experience true transformation.  You will not find this sort of support at a gym, weight loss center, or from your friends and family.  A life coach is your partner on an exciting and sometimes difficult journey – someone who supports what you do and challenges you when you need a kick in the butt.  My programs are not quick fixes or “miracle cures” – you did not get they way you are overnight and you will not get healthy that quickly either.  Each person is a unique being – what works for one person may not work for someone else.  Together, we will figure out a plan of attack that will be fun and enjoyable – after all, you’ll need to do it for the rest of your life!
